<title>Assessment of Mental Health condition of Tiger Widows</title>
<link>https://repository.auw.edu.bd/handle/123456789/136</link>
<description>Assessment of Mental Health condition of Tiger Widows
Zaman, Afreen
In Sundarbans, many people fall prey to tiger attacks and lose their lives. The widows&#13;
and widowers of the victims are stigmatized because of the villagers’ superstitions that the tiger&#13;
attacks were somehow their faults. They are often ostracised by society and barred from&#13;
accessing social benefits. Due to this they may develop post traumatic stress disorder and&#13;
depression amongst other mental diseases. There has been extensive research done on the mental&#13;
health of the “tiger-widows” in the Indian part of the Sundarbans but not as many in the&#13;
Bangladeshi part. In this study we explored the incidents of PTSD and Depression among Tiger&#13;
Widows via questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions. Our result&#13;
showed that Tiger Widows are at a higher risk of both PTSD and Depression than non-Tiger&#13;
Widows- i.e. widows whose husbands have not died due to tiger attacks. Through this study we&#13;
hope to shed light on the mental health of tiger-widows and highlight the need for more research&#13;
in this specific area.

<title>Understanding of Sexual Consent Among Youths in Bangladesh</title>
<link>https://repository.auw.edu.bd/handle/123456789/135</link>
<description>Understanding of Sexual Consent Among Youths in Bangladesh
Kunwar, Anugya; Kunwar, Anugya; Nawshin, Ayesha Abrar
Sexual consent is a topic that impacts nearly everyone on a regular basis, while&#13;
simultaneously not having enough open discussions. Questions of what exactly constitutes as&#13;
consent differ from person to person, and from study to study. In Bangladesh, sexual morality is&#13;
usually simplified to abstinence before marriage, and all sexual activity after that is condoned.&#13;
This makes marriage the dividing line between right and wrong. However, reality differs from&#13;
moral expectations as most late teens and young adults do have romantic and sexual interactions,&#13;
without any proper conversation or education on the exercise of consent. A huge obstacle to such&#13;
conversation comes from the normalization of being quiet about sexual topics. Sex education is&#13;
mostly unheard of in the region, and schools go as far as to exclude or simply skim over the&#13;
reproduction topics in biology books. Even when sex is mentioned, they are talked about in&#13;
terms of visible health issues such as sexually transmitted diseases, or pregnancies, rather than&#13;
the emotional understanding of other complications that come with sex, one of which is the&#13;
exercise of consent.&#13;
Building on this gap, this study aims to look at a small sample of university students to&#13;
discuss how they perceive consent in difficult sexual situations. Their responses touch over&#13;
issues of legality, morality, and culture, all of which are very specific to the background and&#13;
demographics of the sample. All of these social aspects further added to the necessity for sexual&#13;
education in Bangladesh itself.

<title>Sexual Harassment of Women in the Streets of Kabul, Afghanistan Asian University For women (AUW)</title>
<link>https://repository.auw.edu.bd/handle/123456789/134</link>
<description>Sexual Harassment of Women in the Streets of Kabul, Afghanistan Asian University For women (AUW)
Tahiri, Frough; Rezayee, Fatima
Sexual harassment of women is one of the most pressing problems for women in Afghanistan. Many women in Afghanistan not only suffer from illiteracy, gender discrimination at work place and patriarchal oppression at home, they also encounter different forms of harassment by men in the streets. This summer project research under the grant of Asian University for Women (AUW) aimed to explore the reasons and features of sexual harassment of women in the streets of Kabul from the perspectives of Afghan youth. This research surveyed about 90 students from different universities in Kabul, Afghanistan. The researchers also held several discussion meetings with different students of different universities, such as, Kabul University. The analysis shows that the reasons for sexual harassment of women are deeply rooted in gender inequality and patriarchy in Afghan family, community and tribal culture, and economic and social factors. The data and analysis are obtained from the relevant secondary data sources and the author's surveys and interviews in Kabul in summer 2019.

<title>The Collision of New Mothers and Perinatal Depression in Bhutan</title>
<link>https://repository.auw.edu.bd/handle/123456789/133</link>
<description>The Collision of New Mothers and Perinatal Depression in Bhutan
Denka, Chimi
The main aim of the study was to bring perinatal depression into&#13;
spotlight since most of the people in Bhutan are not aware of what&#13;
perinatal depression is. We also found out through our literature review&#13;
that there are not many researches done on perinatal depression or&#13;
mental health in general, so we wanted to establish a research which can&#13;
be used as a base for further in-depth study about perinatal depression&#13;
including the causes and interventions to help mothers.&#13;
The hypothesis of our research is women who are giving birth for the&#13;
first time are more vulnerable to undergoing perinatal depression than&#13;
the ones who have given birth before. The main objective of this&#13;
research is to see who exactly is more at risk to experience perinatal&#13;
depression.
